Orthodontic materials with fluoride have an antimicrobial ability for the prevention of white spot lesions

Aim: Orthodontic brackets during their wear cause demineralization of enamel, which is the initial step in caries development. The prevention such spots crucial to ensure healthy teeth, but patients’ compliance not most optimal way. aim this study was compare antimicrobial properties fluoride-containing orthodontic materials without additional fluoride. Materials and Methods: Antibacterial effectiveness with fluoride – Transbond Plus SEP Bonding agent, Transpond Adhesive Fuji I Band cement, Ortho LC Solo substances XT Primer were tested inhibition on common causes L. achidophilus (ATCC 4356) S. mutans 10449) compared negative control. Antimicrobial each material measured agar diffusion method expressed diameters zones around disk. Results: containing showed more or control (p<0.001), respectively. from group no antibacterial statistically different (P>0.05). Conclusion: significant when substance thus might have potential vivo.
